What do birds mean on tarot cards?
This quiz checks which cards of the Tayna deck have birds on them and how to read them: doves, falcons, an eagle, a small songbird and even the feathers on hats and in hair. You will match a card to its bird and pick the right meaning. Every detail comes from the descriptions of our own artwork.
In tarot a bird belongs to air and height. It sees further than a person, carries news and changes place easily. That is why birds on the cards often speak about a view from above, about thought, freedom and peace between people. Still, each bird has its own temper, and the same flock does not mean the same thing everywhere.
Dove, falcon and eagle: what's the difference?
White doves are nearly always about peace and purity. They sit at the Magician's feet among roses and lilies, descend toward the Ace of Cups and fly beside the King of Swords. Next to a sharp blade they matter most: they show that clarity can serve reconciliation rather than war.
The falcon is a bird of keen sight and purpose. With the King of Wands it perches on a stone ledge and sees far ahead; on the Nine of Pentacles it sits hooded on a gloved hand, power that has been tamed. The eagle belongs to rule and a high point of view, and it appears by the Emperor's throne.
Small birds and feathers read more gently. The bird on a branch over The Star sings of hope returning, the lone bird near the Queen of Swords speaks of her independence, and a feather in hair or on a hat adds lightness and lively curiosity to a figure.
How the quiz works
