Tarot birth card by date of birth

Two cards hidden in your birth date: how the world sees you, and what truly matters to you inside.

Which card guides you through life?

Find your Soul card from your date of birth.

Date of birth

We use the date only to calculate your cards.

Your tarot birth cards are a way to look at yourself through the deck with no shuffle and no chance involved. Your birth date never changes, so the cards drawn from it stay with you for life. There are two: the Personality card shows how you act and how others see you, and the Soul card shows what drives you from within, even when you keep it to yourself.

Enter your date of birth and the calculator adds up the numbers and names both cards, then Tayna explains how they sound together. Sometimes they are the same Major Arcana card, and your outer and inner selves match. Sometimes they differ, and the most interesting part lives in the gap between them.

A birth card is not fate carved in stone or a diagnosis of your character. It is a mirror that lights up your strengths and your familiar traps. What you do with them is up to you.

How your tarot birth card is calculated

The method is simple enough to check on paper. First add the day, month and year you were born. You get a four-digit number; add its digits together, and keep going until the result is 22 or less. That is the number of your Personality card among the 22 Major Arcana. Number 22 stands for The Fool, which is card zero in the deck.

Then reduce that same number to a single digit — this is your Soul card. If the Personality card is already a single digit, the two cards are the same.

  • Add the day, month and year: for example, 14 + 3 + 1990.
  • Add the digits of the result until you reach 22 or less — your Personality card.
  • If it has two digits, add them once more down to one — your Soul card.
  • Find both among the Major Arcana: 1 is The Magician, 2 The High Priestess and so on up to 21, The World; 22 is The Fool.

Three worked examples

Born 14 March 1990. Add: 14 + 3 + 1990 = 2007. Digits: 2 + 0 + 0 + 7 = 9. Card nine is The Hermit. The number is already a single digit, so the Soul card is The Hermit too. This is someone who finds answers within, values quiet and becomes a steady support for others once they have worked things out themselves.

Born 6 April 1980. Add: 6 + 4 + 1980 = 1990. Digits: 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19. Card nineteen is The Sun — that is how people see this person from outside: warm, open, hard to miss. Then 1 + 9 = 10, and 1 + 0 = 1, so the Soul card is The Magician. Inside there is a drive to create and to make ideas real with their own hands.

Born 1 January 1991. Add: 1 + 1 + 1991 = 1993. Digits: 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 22, which is The Fool — lightness and fresh starts. Soul card: 2 + 2 = 4, The Emperor. Freedom and spontaneity on the outside, a need for order and clear boundaries on the inside.

Reading your Personality and Soul cards together

The Personality card is how you walk into a room: your manner, the role people tend to give you, the way you tackle problems. Friends and colleagues recognise it first. The Soul card is harder to see from outside — it is what you are really doing everything else for.

When the cards differ, ask yourself where in your life one of them is louder than the other right now. The Sun outside and The Magician inside might mean people love you for your charm while you would rather be valued for what you make. Matching cards are not a dull result either: they speak of wholeness, but also of the card's weak spots showing up twice as strongly.

Some sites call the Personality card your life path card or destiny card. The names vary; the digit-adding method is the same. Just remember that destiny here means a tendency, not a script.

More birth date calculators

Your Personality card is the basis for the other calculators in this section, listed below. Tarot compatibility compares two people's cards and works out a card for the couple. The Year card adds your birth day and month to the current year and names the theme of your personal year, which runs from one birthday to the next.

If you want to go further than a date allows, try the Soul Path and Purpose spread: the cards there are drawn from the deck and speak to where you come from and where your path is calling.

What birth cards cannot tell you

Everyone born on the same day gets the same result, so the calculation cannot describe the events of your life. It describes an energy that is natural for you to work with and the questions worth asking yourself.

If your card feels like a stranger, do not dismiss it straight away. We often fail to recognise what comes easily to us, or what we pushed aside long ago. Read the description again in a couple of weeks — sometimes the meaning lands later.

Frequently asked questions

Why do birth card calculations use only the Major Arcana?

There are 22 Major Arcana — exactly as many results as reducing the digits can give. Each one describes a big life theme, which suits a portrait of a person better than the Minor Arcana with their everyday matters.

Does my tarot birth card change as I get older?

No, your Personality and Soul cards stay the same for life. What changes is how you live them: at twenty The Empress may show up as caring for others, at forty as learning to care for yourself.

What does it mean if my Personality and Soul cards are the same?

Your outer and inner selves speak with one voice: you act from the same motives you feel inside. The card's strengths are doubled — and so are its challenges, so read both its upright and reversed meanings.

Can I work out someone else's birth card?

Yes, the calculation works for any date. Keep in mind that the card describes tendencies, not actions — it cannot tell you how a person will behave in a specific situation. To compare yourself with a partner, the compatibility calculator is the better fit.

Why did another site give me a different birth card?

There are several methods: some add every digit of the date at once, others use only the day of birth. Tayna adds the day, month and year, then reduces the digits step by step. Cards are only comparable within the same method.

Does the birth card calculator count toward my daily readings?

No, the Personality and Soul cards are a calculation, not a draw from the deck, so they do not use a daily reading. The compatibility and Year card calculators each count as one reading from your daily allowance.
