Your tarot year card
One card for your whole personal year: what it is about, what it teaches and what to lean on until your next birthday.
Your year card is the Major Arcana card that comes from your birth day and month combined with the current year. Unlike your birth card, it changes every year and describes not your character but the theme of a stretch of life: a time to begin, to gather, to let go, or to learn patience.
Enter your date of birth and the calculator finds the card, then Tayna explains what it means for you this year — where support lies, where the challenge is, and which question is worth carrying with you. Your birth year plays no part in the sum; only the day and month count.
A year card does not map out events month by month or promise luck. It sets a mood and a direction. How you move through the year is your choice.
How the year card is calculated
Add your birth day, your birth month and the current year. Then add the digits of the result together until you reach 22 or less. That is the number of a Major Arcana card: 1 is The Magician, 2 The High Priestess, and so on up to 21, The World. Number 22 is The Fool.
- Take your birth day and month — say, 17 May: 17 and 5.
- Add the current year: 17 + 5 + 2026 = 2048.
- Add the digits: 2 + 0 + 4 + 8 = 14.
- Card fourteen is Temperance. That is your year card.
Your personal year runs birthday to birthday
A personal year does not line up with the calendar. Your 2026 card takes over on your birthday in 2026 and carries you to your next birthday. That is why, early in the calendar year, many people are still living under last year's card.
An example. Your birthday is 25 November, it is October 2026, and the birthday is still ahead. Last year's card is still in play: 25 + 11 + 2025 = 2061, digits 2 + 0 + 6 + 1 = 9 — The Hermit, a year of quiet and looking for answers within. On 25 November the new one begins: 25 + 11 + 2026 = 2062, digits 2 + 0 + 6 + 2 = 10 — Wheel of Fortune, a year of turns and movement.
The calculator takes care of this: if your birthday has not come yet this year, it shows the card in play right now — last year's. The next one is easy to work out the same way.
How to read your year card
Every card is both a lesson and a resource. Temperance describes a year when finding balance matters more than charging ahead: blending work and rest, your wishes and other people's expectations. Wheel of Fortune points to a year of change best met with flexibility rather than resistance. The Hermit marks a time to make less noise and listen to yourself more.
A hard card — The Tower, The Devil or The Moon — does not mean a bad year. The Tower brings not disaster but release from something that had been cracking for a while. The Devil invites you to look at your attachments and decide which ones you actually need. The Moon teaches you to trust your intuition where nothing is clear.
It helps to revisit your card halfway through the personal year and ask: where do I already recognise it? By then the theme usually shows up in real events far more clearly than on day one.
Year card vs a yearly tarot spread
The year card is one steady landmark calculated from a date. The Yearly Tarot spread in the forecasts section is thirteen cards drawn from the deck: a theme for the year plus a card for every month. The first tells you what the year is about as a whole; the second shows how it might unfold step by step.
They work well together. Find your year card, then do a yearly or birthday spread and see how the drawn cards answer the theme your date has set.
What a year card cannot show
Everyone born on the same day and month shares the same year card, so it cannot predict specific events. It is a frame, not a forecast: it suggests where to look, but it does not decide for you.
Each year card calculation counts as one reading from your daily allowance: three a day without signing in, ten after signing in with Telegram or email.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the year card not use my birth year?
The year card describes not you but the time you are moving through. So the current year takes the place of your birth year, and your birth day and month tie it to your own personal cycle.
When does my new year card start?
On your birthday. A personal year runs from one birthday to the next, so until that date last year's card is still in play.
Can I find out next year's card in advance?
Yes — add next year to your birth day and month and reduce the digits the same way. The calculator uses the current year, but next year's card is quick to work out on paper.
What if my year card is a difficult one?
Read it as a task rather than a threat. Hard cards most often point to changes that have been brewing for a while. Look at what the card asks you to release or rebuild — that is where the year's real resource lies.
How is the year card different from my birth card?
Your birth card comes from your full date of birth and stays with you for life. The year card changes every birthday and describes the theme of one stretch of time. One is about who you are; the other is about what you are going through.
Will someone born on my birthday have the same year card?
Yes, everyone born on the same day and month shares this year's card. Each person lives it differently, though, because their birth card and circumstances are their own.
