Which tarot cards belong to the Sun and the Moon?

This quiz tests how the two lights of the sky entered tarot through the Golden Dawn system. The Sun as a planet gets the Sun card, trump nineteen. The Moon as a planet, though, does not get the Moon card: it gets the High Priestess. The Moon card belongs to Pisces in the same scheme. Plenty of readers trip on this, so it is a good place to start.

Each light rules a single sign. The Sun rules Leo, whose card is Strength. The Moon rules Cancer, whose card is the Chariot. That gives two pairs worth remembering together: the Sun with Strength speaks of warmth and steady confidence, while the Priestess with the Chariot speaks of feelings that know how to protect what matters.

Where do the lights hide in the Minor Arcana?

The number cards from Two to Ten each cover a decan, and every decan has a planet. The Sun and the Moon get five decans apiece. The Sun stands behind the Three of Wands, the Ten of Swords, the Eight of Pentacles, the Six of Cups and the Four of Pentacles. The Moon sits behind the Six of Pentacles, the Four of Cups, the Two of Swords, the Nine of Wands and the Seven of Swords. Even the Ten of Swords turns out to be solar.

None of this makes a card good or bad. A solar decan adds clarity and a wish to be seen; a lunar one adds sensitivity, shifting moods and inner work. Read with its solar note, the Ten of Swords becomes an ending after which the light finally returns and the next step is plain.

How the quiz works

Each round draws five questions from twelve. Some ask you to pick one card out of four, some test popular claims as true or myth, and some ask you to read a pair of cards. A flawless round earns Tayna keys, and replays are unlimited.

These links add one more layer of meaning to a card. They do not turn a reading into a horoscope or promise anything. When the Sun and the Moon meet in your spread, take it as an invitation to notice where your situation sits in clear daylight and where it rests in a quiet night of hunches and doubts.
