Moving slowly on purpose so your heart and choices can finally line up
This October feels like walking through water: everything moves, but more slowly than your mind wants. Plans may stall or zigzag, nudging you to act with intention instead of intensity. You’re invited to put some burdens down, to stop carrying what isn’t really yours. Underneath the delays, there’s a quiet realignment: you choosing what still feels true, and gently releasing what doesn’t.
Theme of the month · Eight of Wands
Eight of Wands reversed says this is not a month for rushing or forcing outcomes. Mixed signals, delays or crossed wires may frustrate you, but they’re also buying you time to clarify what you really want to move toward. If you treat every slowdown as a chance to adjust your aim, you come out of this month more precise, not behind.
Love and relationships · Ten of Wands
The Ten of Wands shows you taking on a lot in love: emotional labor, practical tasks, unspoken expectations. You may notice where you’ve been the strong one for everyone, but haven’t asked for support in return. This is a good time to name what feels heavy and invite others to share the load, or to admit a connection needs to be simpler to be sustainable.
Work and money · Seven of Swords
Seven of Swords reversed points to honesty catching up with you — or you catching up with yourself. At work or around money, hidden motives, half-truths, or quietly avoided conversations may come to light, offering a chance to clear the air. Owning your part and choosing transparency can actually protect you now, even if it feels vulnerable in the moment.
Where in your life would telling the whole, unpolished truth finally let you put a burden down?
Death: the tarot card of Scorpio
People are often startled to learn that Scorpio's card is Death, yet in tarot it almost never means a literal ending. A rider in black armour sits on a white horse, and behind him the sun rises between two towers. It is an image of passage: one chapter closes so another can open. Scorpio senses these thresholds more keenly than any other sign and does not shy away from crossing them.
Scorpio lives by all or nothing. You do not love halfway, stay friends out of politeness or pretend nothing happened. Death mirrors that directness. It trims away what is no longer needed so that what matters can remain. This is familiar work for you: releasing relationships, roles and habits you have outgrown, and coming out of each change stronger and more honest than before.
On the bright side, the card reflects Scorpio's courage to transform, emotional depth and remarkable ability to rise again after the hardest seasons. On the shadow side, it shows clinging to the past, transitions that drag on, and holding onto what stopped giving warmth long ago. Death reminds you that leaning against a closed door takes more strength than walking through an open one. Every ending carries a beginning inside it.
The Water element and the suit of Cups
Scorpio is the fixed Water sign, sitting between Cancer and Pisces. If Cancer's water is a sheltered harbour and Pisces' water is a boundless ocean, Scorpio's is a deep lake that keeps a great deal hidden at the bottom. The element gives you intuition, an ability to read people at a glance and fierce emotional loyalty. You may look calm on the surface while a whole world moves underneath.
Cups are the suit of feelings, relationships, dreams and everything that fills the heart. For Scorpio they matter enormously, because emotions here are never shallow: they either nourish or corrode. The Queen and King of Cups feel close to this sign, sharing its depth and its ability to hold strong feelings without spilling them. A spread full of Cups suggests the answer lives in your heart rather than in logic.
Mars and The Tower: Scorpio's ruler
Modern astrology often names Pluto as Scorpio's ruler, but the Golden Dawn system works with the traditional planets known before the eighteenth century. So here the sign is ruled by Mars, the same planet as Aries. In tarot, Mars corresponds to The Tower (XVI): lightning strikes a tall building and a crown tumbles from its top. It is a card of sudden change, broken illusions and clearing ground for something new.
In Aries, Mars acts openly, like a frontal charge. In Scorpio it turns inward and becomes willpower, persistence and the stamina to see things through. Together, The Tower and Death sketch the sign's character: one shows an abrupt turn, the other a slow, irreversible transformation. The Tower's shadow is fear of change and crises postponed for too long. The more honestly you notice the cracks, the gentler change tends to be.
The three decans of Scorpio
The first decan, roughly October 23 to November 1, belongs to the Five of Cups: a cloaked figure gazes at three spilled cups, unaware of the two still standing behind. If you were born in these days, you know regret well and feel it deeply. Your strength lies in being honest about your own pain. Your lesson is turning around one day and seeing how much of value is still with you.
The second decan, roughly November 2 to 11, is the Six of Cups: children in an old courtyard, one offering the other a cup full of flowers. It is a card of warm memories, childhood and simple kindness. People born now often stay loyal to the people and places of their past and know how to give others a feeling of home. Your lesson is not idealising what has gone or living in it instead of the present.
The third decan, roughly November 12 to 21, is given to the Seven of Cups: a figure facing seven cups filled with visions, among them treasure, a castle, a snake and a laurel wreath. This card is about dreams, fantasy and many tempting options. If you were born here, you likely have a rich imagination and strong intuition. Your lesson is telling a dream from an illusion and choosing one path when many look appealing.
Scorpio in tarot readings
When Death, The Tower or one of Scorpio's three Cups appears in a spread, the reading usually deals with change, deep feelings, trust and secrets. Death often shows up when a stage of life has already ended, even if part of you is not ready to admit it. Reversed, it suggests that a transition has stalled and it may be time to let go of what keeps you in place.
Typical Scorpio questions sound like what am I not being told, should I let go or fight, what comes after this change? The cards can reveal what is hidden, but they are not a tool for spying on other people's minds; they work best when they look into you. If The Star or The Sun appears beside the sign's card, take it as a sign that light is waiting around the bend.
A tip for reading tarot as a Scorpio: do not fear the heavy cards. There are no bad arcana in the deck, only themes that are ready to be looked at. Ask deep questions, but leave room for lightness, because not every spread has to turn your life upside down. And remember that your power lies not in controlling the future but in your ability to change along with it.
