Three-month tarot spread
Four cards for the next quarter: the overall theme and one card for each of the three months.

Three months is a handy horizon. It is shorter than a year, so the cards speak more concretely, and longer than a month, so real movement has time to show: a new job settles into a rhythm, studies begin to pay off, a relationship goes through its first test. A three-month tarot spread fits a probation period, a season, a semester, or any project with a clear deadline.
The first card sets the theme of the whole period — the main thread tying the three months together. The next three cover one month each: how it will go, what will take effort, what will bring joy. The count starts from the day you draw, not from the first of the month, so you can begin any day.
The cards will not plan the quarter for you or name the dates of events. They show the rhythm of the period: where to speed up, where to wait it out, where to lean on other people. Tayna reads them from their classic meanings and ties them to your question.
What each position means
- 1
Theme of the period
The main thread of the three months — what the whole quarter is about. Read the other cards through it: if the theme is the Eight of Pentacles, even a hard month becomes part of the learning.
- 2
Month 1
The start of the period: what you walk in with and what shows up quickly. Wands here mean momentum; Pages mean learning as you go.
- 3
Month 2
The middle, when the first rush fades and results are not in yet. Cards of patience and testing often land here — that is the normal rhythm of any quarter, not a bad sign.
- 4
Month 3
The outcome of the period and what you leave it with. Pentacles and Tens speak of results, Threes of first fruits and wider horizons, and a reversed card suggests finishing at a calmer pace.
Example reading
Question: “What can I expect over the next three months while I retrain for a new career?”
- Theme of the periodEight of Pentacles
- Month 1Page of Swords
- Month 2Nine of Wands
- Month 3Three of Wands
The Eight of Pentacles as the theme makes this a quarter of craft: everything rests on daily practice, and your strength will come from repetition rather than bursts. The Page of Swords in the first month is a time of questions and curiosity — ask, dig in, do not worry about looking like a beginner. The Nine of Wands in the second month warns of mid-course fatigue: you may want to quit just when the first results are close. The Three of Wands in the third month opens the horizon: your first pieces of work worth showing, and a sense of where to go next. The cards suggest planning some rest for month two in advance.
How to ask about the next three months
Tie your question to whatever will really fill these months. The clearer the frame, the better the cards map onto time:
- How will my first three months at the new job go?
- What can I expect from this semester?
- What will the next quarter bring to my relationship?
- How will the project due before winter come together?
- Where will I need the most energy over the next three months?
If the middle month looks heavy
The second month is often the hardest: the novelty is gone and the result is not in sight. A heavy card here is a hint to build in slack — fewer promises, more rest, help from people around you.
Look at the theme and the third month. If they are bright, a tough middle is part of the road, not where it ends.
Frequently asked questions
Why three months and not six?
Three months is a span where the cards still speak concretely and changes have time to show. Six months and beyond, the picture gets general, and a yearly tarot spread suits that horizon better.
When does month one start?
On the day you draw. If you prefer a calendar quarter, say so in your question — for example, October, November, December — and Tayna will read the cards for those months.
Does this spread work for a probation period?
Yes, it is one of the most common reasons people use it. Probation often lasts about three months, so the positions fit it naturally: the start, the middle, the outcome.
Can I do a three-month reading about a relationship?
Yes. Say who it is about and what is going on now, and the cards will show how things may unfold over the coming months. It works for a reading about anyone, whoever they are.
When should I redo a quarterly tarot reading?
When the period ends, or when something shifts the picture: a new job, a move, a big decision. Redoing it every week is not worth it — the cards start answering your anxiety.
How do I keep track of a three-month reading?
Save it to your Book of Secrets and reread it at the end of each month. It makes it easier to see where a card matched real life and to adjust course for the month ahead.
