Love triangle tarot spread
Four cards to look calmly at a tangled story between three people — and find where you stand and what you need.
The cards are shuffling…

Tap to skip straight to choosing
Being caught in a love triangle is exhausting, whichever side you are on. Maybe the person you love cannot choose. Maybe your own heart is pulled toward two people. Maybe someone new has appeared in a relationship that felt settled. The thoughts loop, and there is often no one you can talk to. A love triangle tarot spread helps you pause and see the whole shape of it.
Four cards look at each person and at what matters most: what is happening with you, what is happening with them, the role the third person plays, and where you stand. We use “them” and “him” loosely here; the spread works for any combination of people and genders, including when you are the one choosing between two.
This is not a spread about winning or about getting someone to stay. The cards will not help you hold on to anyone or push anyone away, and they should not. What they do is show, kindly, what each person feels — and bring you back to the question that is yours alone: what do you want and deserve, apart from everyone else?
What each position means
- 1
You
Your state in this story: hope, exhaustion, attachment, fear of being alone. This card is often more honest than your thoughts — it shows how much this has already cost you.
- 2
Them
What is going on with the person at the centre: their feelings, doubts and the reasons they hesitate. The Two of Swords or Seven of Cups here often means they do not know what they want themselves.
- 3
The third person
The role the third person plays, without judgement. This card is not about whether they are good or bad, but about what keeps them in the situation and what they bring to it.
- 4
Where you stand
The heart of the reading: where you are now and which way to move for your own sake. It may be a step forward, a pause, or stepping out of the triangle. The card shows a direction; the choice is yours.
Example reading
Question: “He has not been able to choose between me and someone else for six months. Where do I stand?”
- YouNine of Swords
- ThemSeven of Cups
- The third personFour of Pentacles
- Where you standEight of Cups
The Nine of Swords in You speaks of sleepless nights and worry: this waiting is already costing you too much. The Seven of Cups in Them shows a man surrounded by options and daydreams; he is not delaying because of strong feelings for one person but because he is afraid to lose something. The Four of Pentacles for the third person shows someone holding tight to what is familiar and secure, also stuck in limbo. The Eight of Cups in Where you stand speaks gently of moving on: it may be time to step back from this story and ask what kind of relationship you actually need. That is not a punishment. It is looking after yourself.
How to ask when you are in a triangle
Questions about you and your choices work best — not questions about how to influence the others. They lead to an answer you can actually do something with.
- Where do I stand in this situation?
- What do I really need from this relationship?
- Why can't he make a decision?
- How do I choose when I care about two people?
- What will help me get out of this uncertainty?
When you are the one choosing
Sometimes you are the one at the centre: your heart is drawn to two people, and every option feels like a betrayal. In that case, put one person in the Them position and the other in The third person, and Where you stand will show what resonates more deeply in you.
The Two Options spread also suits this question, since it compares paths and shows where each one leads. Just remember that choosing between people is not like choosing between jobs. The cards only make your own feelings clearer.
What this spread will not do
It will not help you keep, lure or take anyone, and it does not look for someone to blame. Everyone in a triangle is confused and hurting in their own way. Tayna reads the cards to make things clearer and calmer for you, not to stoke a contest.
Frequently asked questions
Will the reading show who they will end up choosing?
It shows what is going on with them now and why the decision is dragging on. The cards do not predict someone else's choice; that is theirs to make. Where you stand answers the question that is in your hands: what you do next.
Can I use this spread if I am the third person?
Yes. The You card will be about you, and The third person will describe whoever was in the relationship before you. The spread treats everyone with the same care and does not sort people into right and wrong.
Why is there no outcome card in a love triangle spread?
Because the outcome depends on three people's decisions, not on the cards. Instead of a forecast, the spread gives you something to stand on: an understanding of yourself and your place. That is more honest and more useful than a promise.
What if the third person gets a bright, positive card?
That is normal. A bright card does not mean they are better than you. It says they have feelings and reasons of their own. Seeing the third person as a real human being is often the first step toward letting the tension go.
Can this spread help if I have feelings for two people at once?
Yes. Put each person in their own position and see what the cards say about you beside each of them. Where you stand will point to what you truly want once the fear of hurting someone eases.
Will anyone else involved know I did this reading?
No. Only you see it. It does not affect anyone or tell them anything — it is a conversation with yourself, not a move against anyone.
