What does he think of me? Tarot reading

Three cards on what is on their mind: how often you come up, how they see you and what they have not said.

The cards are shuffling…

Tap to skip straight to choosing

  1. Thoughts about you
  2. What they see in you
  3. What they leave unsaid

Sometimes it matters less what someone feels and more what is going on in their head. He replies in two words but likes every story. The evening was warm, and then silence. What is he thinking? This spread answers exactly that: what thoughts about you he has right now, how he sizes you up, and what stays unspoken.

Three cards read his view from the side of the mind: his thoughts about you, the picture of you he has built, and what he leaves unsaid. We write "he" because that is how most people ask, but the spread works just as well for her, for a friend, a colleague or anyone whose thoughts you are wondering about.

Thoughts are not feelings and not actions. Someone can think about you a lot and do nothing, or stay quiet and still value you. If you want to know what is in their heart, there is a separate How Do They Feel About Me spread. This one is about the head.

What each position means

  1. 1

    Thoughts about you

How often you come up in their mind and in what tone: curiosity, doubt, warmth or worry. Swords here mean a lot of analysing; Wands mean thoughts quickly turn into plans.

  2. 2

    What they see in you

The picture of you they carry in their head. It may not match who you really are: this card shows their view, not the truth about you.

  3. 3

    What they leave unsaid

The thought they keep to themselves: a doubt, admiration, a fear of coming on too strong. A reversed card here often means they have not fully admitted it even to themselves.

Example reading

Question: “What does he think of me after our first date?”

  1. Thoughts about youKnight of Swordsreversed
  2. What they see in youQueen of Wands
  3. What they leave unsaidThree of Pentacles

The Knight of Swords reversed in his thoughts: he keeps replaying the date, jumps to conclusions and then takes them back. The Queen of Wands as what he sees in you is a bright, confident person who is fun to be around — he noticed that straight away. The Three of Pentacles in what he leaves unsaid suggests he already thinks of the two of you as something you could build together, but is keeping quiet so as not to rush it. His restraint is not coldness; it is the caution of someone who does not want to get it wrong.

How to ask about his thoughts

The more specific the question, the more specific the answer. Add context: after what, in which situation, on which day.

  • What does he think of me today?
  • What impression do I make on him?
  • What does he think about our last conversation?
  • Does he see me as someone to date?
  • What stops him from texting first?

Which tarot cards speak about thoughts

In tarot, thoughts belong mainly to the suit of Swords. The Ace of Swords is a clear, strong thought about you, the Two means he cannot decide, the Nine is worrying thoughts at night, the Queen and King a sober assessment with no illusions.

Major Arcana show that thoughts of you matter to him: the Magician means he is working out how to act, the High Priestess that he understands more than he lets on, the Moon that he is confused about what he thinks himself.

Thoughts or feelings: which spread to choose

This reading is about the head: judgements, doubts, plans. To understand what he feels, open How Do They Feel About Me. If you want the whole picture at once, try Thoughts, Feelings, Actions.

Frequently asked questions

Will this reading show if he is thinking about me right now?

The cards show the overall pattern of his thoughts about you in this period, not what is in his head this very minute. Think of it as a mood rather than a transcript.

If he thinks about me a lot, why doesn't he text?

Thoughts and actions live separately. He may be thinking, doubting, worried about seeming too keen. The What They Leave Unsaid position often explains that silence.

Can I ask what a guy I barely know thinks of me?

Yes. The spread will show his first impression and what he has had time to think about you. Just remember that early on, thoughts change quickly.

What is the difference between what he thinks and what he feels?

Thoughts are judgements and plans; feelings are what happens in the heart. Someone can think critically about you and still be drawn to you, or the other way round. That is why they are two different spreads.

Can I use this spread to ask what she thinks of me?

Of course. The positions read the same for anyone — a girlfriend, a friend, a colleague, an ex. Just put her name in your question.

What if the cards say he thinks badly of me?

Look at the second position: it often shows his distorted picture of you rather than the truth. The reading is a chance to understand where that picture comes from, not a reason to believe it.
