Does he love me? It is one of the hardest questions to ask out loud, even to the person you are with. It shows up when the attention fades, when the words have not been said in a while, or when everything feels so good that you are afraid to believe it. This tarot reading lets you look calmly at what is there and ask the real question underneath: am I loved?
Three cards answer in order: whether there is love for you right now and what kind it is, how deep and steady it runs, and what keeps them from showing it. We say “he” because that is how most people search, but the reading works just as well for a girlfriend, a wife, a husband, or anyone whose love you are wondering about.
The cards cannot measure love in percentages or promise it will last forever. They show what lives in the other person's heart now and how it comes out. Sometimes they also nudge you toward a second question that matters just as much: do I feel loved when I am with them?
What each position means
- 1
Feelings now
The core of the reading: love, tenderness, attraction, habit or distance. The Lovers, Two and Ten of Cups speak of living love; the Four of Cups of weariness; the King of Pentacles of love shown through care rather than words.
- 2
Their depth
How rooted the feeling is: a spark that could fade, or something you can lean on. Pentacles and the Empress point to steadiness; Pages and Aces show love that is still growing.
- 3
What keeps them hidden
Why the love is not always visible: fear, pride, exhaustion, circumstances, or simply a different way of expressing it. This is an explanation, not a verdict — sometimes love is there and just goes unrecognised.
Example reading
Question: “Does he love me if he hardly ever talks about his feelings?”
- Feelings nowKing of Pentacles
- Their depthNine of Pentacles
- What keeps them hiddenFour of Swordsreversed
The King of Pentacles in feelings now says the love is real, but it lives in what he does: he looks after you, handles practical things, wants you to feel secure. The Nine of Pentacles in depth describes a calm, settled feeling — he is content with you, and this is not passing. The Four of Swords reversed in what keeps it hidden shows someone coming out of a long stretch of strain; he simply has no energy left for words. His quiet is not coldness. Try noticing the love in his actions, and tell him plainly which words you miss hearing.
Love, infatuation or habit: telling them apart in the cards
Infatuation is bright in tarot: the Knight of Cups, the Ace of Wands, the Sun. It flares quickly and craves novelty. Love is calmer and deeper: the Ten of Cups, the Empress, the King and Queen of Pentacles. It shows in care, and in someone staying close on a hard day.
Habit looks different again: the Four of Cups, the Eight of Pentacles, reversed Cups in the feelings position. That does not mean love is gone. More often it is tired and needs attention from both sides.
If the cards say there is little love right now
It hurts to read, but it is information, not punishment. Look at the third position: it often names what is dimming the feeling — fatigue, resentment, things left unsaid. Those are things two people can work on.
If the cards show coolness again and again over time, turn the question toward yourself: what are you getting from this relationship, and what is missing? The Unrequited Love spread can help when the feeling seems to flow only one way.
Frequently asked questions
Can a tarot reading tell me for certain whether someone loves me?
It shows what feeling lives in that person now and how it is expressed. Certainty is not what tarot offers: love changes, and the other person has their own will. The reading gives you clarity, not a guarantee.
What does a reversed card in Feelings now mean?
Usually the feeling is there but blocked — by hurt, fear of closeness, or exhaustion. Sometimes it is love the person will not allow themselves. The third position, What keeps them hidden, tends to explain why.
Can I ask whether I am loved if we are not dating yet?
You can, but it is more honest to ask about attraction than love at that stage — feelings need time to become love. For something new, the How Does He Feel About Me and Will We Be Together spreads fit better.
How do I read this spread about a long-term partner?
In long relationships, love often moves from words into actions. Pay attention to Pentacles and the court cards: they speak of love shown through care. For the marriage as a whole, try the marriage tarot reading.
Can I ask “does she love me” with this spread?
Yes. The positions are the same for anyone. Ask about her directly or just use her name, and Tayna will read the cards the same way.
Why do the cards say one thing and his behaviour another?
The cards look at the feeling, while behaviour also comes from character, fears and circumstances. The third position exists to explain that gap. If you want the whole picture, try the Thoughts, Feelings, Actions spread.
