Tarot reading about your ex
Five cards on what is still between you: feelings, thoughts, and a possible way back — or forward.

Tap to skip straight to choosing
After a breakup there are always more questions than answers. Why did it end, do they still think of you, should you wait for a message? Those thoughts come back at night and make it hard to move on. An ex tarot reading helps you put them in order.
Five cards look at the story from different angles: the real reason it ended, what your ex feels now, what they think about you, whether a way back exists, and advice on what to do. It works the same for an ex-boyfriend, ex-girlfriend, ex-husband or ex-wife — the cards read the bond, not the gender.
The cards do not decide for you and cannot promise someone will come back. They show what is happening beneath the surface, so the next step is your choice rather than your anxiety's.
What each position means
- 1
Why it ended
The root of the breakup — not the trigger everyone saw, but what had been building underneath. This card often names the reason neither of you said out loud.
- 2
What they feel now
Your ex's emotions today: longing, relief, resentment or attachment. Cups and bright Major Arcana point to living feelings; Swords point to pain and inner arguments.
- 3
Do they think of you
How often you appear in their thoughts, and in what light. A reversed card here does not mean they forgot — more often, they are pushing the thoughts away.
- 4
Is there a way back
Whether the door is open, and what lies behind it. Even a bright card shows a condition: what has to change so that coming back does not repeat the old story.
- 5
Advice
What you can do — reach out, wait, or let go. This position is always about your step, not theirs.

Question: “What does he feel for me three months after the breakup?”
- Why it endedFive of Cups
- What they feel nowThe Moon
- Do they think of youSix of Cups
- Is there a way backEight of Swordsreversed
- AdviceThe Hermit
The Five of Cups as the reason says you did not part for lack of love but because of a disappointment that went unspoken for too long. The Moon in his feelings shows confusion: he does not fully understand what he feels himself. The Six of Cups in his thoughts — he returns to warm memories more often than he lets on. The Eight of Swords reversed on the way back: there is a way out, but old fears keep it shut. The Hermit as advice suggests spending time with yourself first and asking what you really want — the person back, or the feeling you had at the start.
How to ask about your ex
Open questions work best — the kind that cannot be answered with one word. They give the cards room for detail.
- What does my ex feel for me right now?
- Why did our relationship really end?
- What do I need to understand to let go?
- Under what conditions could we start again?
If the cards say there is no way back
It is not a verdict or a punishment. Such a card usually means the old relationship will not return in its old form — and it is time to invest your energy in yourself.
Look at the advice position: it shows where to begin. If the pain is still fresh, try the After a Breakup spread — it is about living through the end and finding your footing again.
Frequently asked questions
How often can I do a tarot reading about my ex?
Once per question. If you repeat the reading every day, the cards start answering your anxiety rather than your question. Come back when something changes: you talked, time passed, new feelings appeared.
Can I do this reading if we broke up a long time ago?
Yes. The cards read the bond between people, not the calendar. A year or five years later, the reading shows what is left of the story and what it means to you now.
Will the reading tell me if my ex will come back?
It shows whether the door is open and what would need to change. No one can promise a return — not the cards and not a reader — because the other person has their own will. For that direct question there is a separate Will My Ex Come Back spread.
What if I get a lot of reversed cards?
Reversed cards point to delay, inner resistance or feelings someone is hiding. It is not a bad reading: it shows where the energy is stuck. Our article on reversed cards explains how to read them.
Does this spread work for an ex-girlfriend or ex-wife?
Yes. The positions read the same for anyone you used to be with. Tayna reads the relationship, not the gender.
Will my ex know about the reading?
No. Only you see it. A reading does not affect the other person or tell them anything — it is a way to understand yourself and the situation better.
